Wristlet Wrangling

June 9, 2009

So, I’m working on something new.  I’m working on making a wristlet.  I never really understood the fascination with these things, but they seem to be all over the place.  I’ve done a little bit of research, talking to various friends and family about the draw of them.  Then I realized that I often ditch my purse for just my wallet, which becomes awkward because I have to hold it in my hand or under my arm.  How nice it would be to have a strap!

And thus the wristlet project began.

I’m trying to make up a pattern on my own.  It isn’t easy.  Mostly because I’m lazy.  I made the first one, and it turned out ok, but not quite right.  So, I made some modifications, and the second one turned out crappy.  Or, at least, bulky and oddly shaped.  So, I’ve made a couple of decisions.  First, instead of having so much going on on the inside, I’m going to cut out one of the pockets/dividers.  Second, I’m going to make the pocket slightly shorter in order to reduce bulk in the seams.  Third, I’m going to use some batting to give it some weight, but cut it down so that it doesn’t bulk up the seams.  Do you think this will work?

If nothing else, it is giving me zipper practice, which, as it turns out, isn’t so hard once you get the hang of it.  So, here’s hoping that the third time is the charm.  And here’s hoping that the AC has cooled off the sewing room enough that I can spend more than 20 minutes in there without passing out!
